What is the Global Talent Visa?

The UK Global Talent visa is an immigration route for leaders and emerging leaders in digital technology, arts and culture, sciences, humanities, engineering, architecture, and fashion design.

Unlike most UK work visas, the Global Talent visa:

  • Doesn’t require a job offer โ€“ Work for any employer, be self-employed, or start your own business
  • Provides a path to settlement โ€“ Apply for permanent residence (ILR) in just 3 years
  • Allows exceptional flexibility โ€“ Switch jobs freely, work multiple roles, or pursue entrepreneurship
  • Includes your family โ€“ Your partner and children can join you

Duration: 3 or 5 years, renewable

Settlement: Eligible for ILR after 3 years (Fast Track) or 5 years

Who is eligible for the Global Talent Visa?

You need to demonstrate either:

Which fields are eligible?

The Global Talent Visa covers five main fields through different endorsing bodies:

  1. Digital Technology (Tech Nation)
    • Software development, data science, AI/ML, product management, cybersecurity, fintech, gaming
  2. Sciences (Royal Society)
    • Biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, medical research
  3. Engineering (Royal Academy of Engineering)
    • All engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, aerospace
  4. Arts & Culture (Arts Council England)
    • Visual arts, film, fashion design, architecture, music, literature, performing arts
  5. Humanities & Social Sciences (British Academy)
    • Economics, history, philosophy, linguistics, archaeology, law, social sciences

Do I need a job offer to apply?

How long does the Global Talent Visa last?

You can choose between:

  • 3 years
  • 5 years

Both options:

  • Are renewable
  • Lead to settlement eligibility
  • Allow the same work flexibility

Which should you choose?

3-year visa if:

  • You’re planning to apply for ILR soon (eligible after 3 years if Fast Track endorsed)

5-year visa if:

Can I apply if I'm already in the UK on another visa?

Yes! You can apply for the Global Talent Visa while in the UK on:

  • Skilled Worker visa
  • Student visa
  • Graduate visa
  • Tier 2 visa
  • Any other valid UK visa

This is called “switching” and is completely allowed.

What happens if I lose my job on the Global Talent Visa?

If you lose your job:

Can my family come with me?

Yes! Your dependents can join you on the Global Talent visa:

  • Your spouse or partner
  • Children under 18
  • Children over 18 (if already dependent on you)

Dependent visa includes:

  • Same duration as your visa (3 or 5 years)
  • Right to work in the UK (no restrictions)
  • Access to NHS healthcare
